Safeguarding Priorities

Safeguarding is an integral part of Avonvale RFC’s approach towards its young players.

To ensure we maintain our high standards in this important aspect of coaching children and young adults, we adopt the following policies and procedures:

All our coaches are required to have undertaken the RFU Rugby Ready qualification.
All our coaches & assistants are subject to the Disclosure and Barring Service through the RFU.
The Head Coach and preferably all coaches in in each age group will have an RFU Level 1 coaching qualification. All head Coaches from Under 13’s upwards will have a Level 2 qualification.
In each age group there is at least one coach or assistant who has undertaken the RFU First Aid course. Each team will be equipped with a fully stocked first aid kit.
In each age group one of the coaches or assistants will have participated in the RFU Safeguarding & Protecting Young People (SPYP) workshop.
‘Everyone shares responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, irrespective of individual roles. Nevertheless, in order that organisations and practitioners collaborate effectively, it is vital that all partners who work with children – including local authorities, the police, the health service, the courts, professionals, the voluntary sector and individual
members of local communities – are aware of, and appreciate, the role that each of them play in this area.’ Working Together to Safeguard Children (DCSF, 2010)

If anyone witnesses, or becomes aware of an incident where the welfare of a young person has been put at risk they must inform the Club Safeguarding Officer. If the incident involves the CSO, they must inform Martin Bath the Chairman of the club.
