2. Inspired by the field hockey at the Rio Olympics?

Current and past HWHC players Chris Cargo and Mikey Watt represented Ireland at the Rio Olympics with Dan Fox representing Team GB.

Seven HWHC players in the Team GB squad will start the 2020/21 season with their sights set on Tokyo 2021: Harry Martin, Will Calnan, Jacob Draper, Rupert Shipperley, Sarah Robertson, Lily Owsley and Grace Balsdon.

HWHC has a long history of Olympians.

Arguably our most famous dates back to 1898 when S.H. Shoveller joined HWHC. Known as the Prince of centre forwards and the immortal centre, "Shove" won 29 caps for England at a time when there were far fewer internationals than now. He is the only British hockey player to win two gold medals in London 1908 and Antwerp 1920. Records are incomplete but it's estimated Shove scored over 500 goals and was responsible for a third of all goals scored by the Club.
