"Kings reign in Walkinstown"

#thecastle held on for a deserved victory over Walkinstown Athletic FC in their Leinster Junior Shield round one clash at bunting road on Saturday.

In a fiery encounter, ten man Walkinstown fought valiantly but ultimately came up short & #thecastle progressed to the next round, thanks to a hat trick from MOTM striker John O'Brien.

It was the home side who created more of the early chances with winger Graham Wheeler twice supplying front man Stephen McDonald with opportunities inside the first ten minutes but he shot over the bar on both occasions.

Meanwhile at the other end of the pitch, #thecastle began to come into the game & the pairing of Alex Murray & the pacey John O'Brien was making life difficult for the home defence.

After serval missed chances Kingswood got the goal that their pressure warranted when midfielder Garrett Bennett's stuffed shot fell to JOB9 at the edge of the box & he powered home into the bottom corner.

Moments later one of the Walkinstown danger men striker Dylan Brown was sent off for an off the ball clash with Kingswoods players Keelan Lockhart.

Fuelled by a feeling of injustice the hosts nearly drew level as Wozniak juggled midfielder David Doyle's looping errort before gathering it all at the third attempt.

When the home goal did arrive it was against the run of play, as forementioned McDonald caught the visitors defence napping & nipped the ball in to equalize.

However just before half time O'Brien doubled his tally, cooly finishing off a perfectly weighted through pass from Ryan Dunne at the near post.

#thecastle were looking very composed in possession throughout& strung together their best passing move of the game shortly after the interval to set up Alex Murray, but he had strayed offside & his emphatic finish was dissallowed.

Walkinstown number 1 GK Impey made another great save midway through the second period to deny Garrett Bennett after O'Brien raced down the wing & centred for the onrushing midfielder to strike.

Ryan Dunne tapped in the rebound but he was adjusted to have been offside & #thecastle were frustrated once again.

Nonetheless it was not long before the outstanding JOB9 completed his hat trick latching onto a long clearance out of defence & he slotted it into the net through the keepers legs.

Walkinstown set the game up for a nervy finish when Graham Wheelers cross to the back post was controlled by substitute Fran Fahy & sent back across goal for Mark Montgomery to finish from close range, but their quest for an equaliser fell agonisingly short as Jamie Biggance's header was Bigganes header was cleared off the line before Fahy's curling effort flew wide.
