Allen also played for Lincoln City from whom he was sold for £2,500 to Boston United. In all competitions he played in 47 games for the Pilgrims and appeared as a substitute 9 times - scoring 4 goals along the way. He made his debut for Boston in the GM Vauxhall Conference in April 1988 at home to Barnet.
He re-joined United in 1990 when he replaced the legendary Fred Green as Manager. Still playing and very much a part of United's transformation from a mediocre Central Midlands League side to Champions. He took the side to their first ever FA Cup Firsdt Round Proper in 1991 and lifted two league titles in consecutive seasons, the Central Midlands League Supreme followed by the Northern Counties East First Division. Following the second triumph he moved across the County to take up the reins as Manager of Grantham Town.
