3. John Horwood

"Jumpin'" John Horwood is one of the Originals. Playing in the 1st ever Warriors match at Gorseinon in 1995. He was 35 and had never previously played rugby. The club was well into it’s 4th season before he missed a game. He made his 100th appearance in Carterton, New Zealand on the club’s 10th anniversary tour, and became the 1st player to make 200 appearances against Tumble 2015.

He was club Captain 2002/03 and at the 1st Mixed Ability World Tournament 2015.

Despite his inexperience, John developed quickly and was the club’s main lineout option throughout his long career. He popular tourist, a stint in a local choir led to John being one of the go-to players for a post match song, with the result that Yellow Submarine has been heard everywhere from Cefneithin to the river canyons of New Zealand.

He has won the awards; Most Improved Player 1997/98, 1998/99, Players' Player 2001/02, Sportsman 2006/07

Initially didn’t play after Covid but was named President in 2022 and has returned to the squad hoping to make 300 appearances before retiring. He is already the last of The Originals to play for the club.

John may have been late to rugby, but his contribution the Warriors club as an example of mixed ability rugby is immeasurable.

Footnote - John made his 300th appearance for the Warriors against Aberavon Green Stars. He played his final match against the Dragon All Stars at Rodney Parade, playing 304 times, in the club's first 401 fixtures.
