William Browne - Prop Will Browne is now in his 10th season with the club.
Debut - May 2009 Vs Dyfed Steel/Llanelli Police
Will likes any sport except football and so was keen to see what the Warriors was all about. “Mike Esney and Lee Barber got me into it when I was with transition services”. “I came down to Cefneithin to watch a game, it’s always great down there. I watched the Warriors win and it was great back in the clubhouse afterwards”. (picture Willy & Josh Crowther)
Will’s first appearance was at Bynea and it was the first game of rugby he had ever played. “I ran the wrong way – I got a bit of stick for that” he tells me. The match was against a Dyfed Steel/Police XV (actually just Dyfed Steel) and saw the Warriors record their 100th victory with a 41-31 scoreline. Will came on as sub for Adrian Williams and his first action was a try saving tackle. The line up that day was: Joshua Crowther (Nathan Lawson*), Liam Carpenter (David carpenter), Andrew John, Alun Stephens, Darren Pollitt* (Richard Evans*), Anthony Randall*, Lee Barber, Adrian Williams (William Brown*), Jason Jenkins*, Ricky Elli (Colin Talcon*), John Horwood*, Roger Thomas, Jonathan Kerr (Cpt), Gwilym Lewis*, Lee Rowlands (Jason Bennett) (* played this season) Jon Kerr scored 21 points with 2 tries, 4 conversions and a penalty, Randall bagged a hatrick and Lee barber also scored. Killer didn’t miss a kick but Joshua Crowther was named Man of the Match.
Since then Will has made 38 appearances for the team. He scored a fine try in Glyncorrwg and most recently played at Felinfoel (December 2018)
As he lives independently he hasn’t always been able to get to matches and he dips in and out of the team which has led to his nick name: “Willy Won’t he” (turn up).
When I asked what he got out of playing Will told me he loved playing itself and being with the boys, but mostly it helped with his stress. “It’s a great stress relief, it takes all my stress away, I can get it out on the field and I feel great”. Other than that, Will cited “hot women and good food” as reasons to play for the club (!!). Will said that his favourite fixtures were Cefneithin and Betws (“there are some hot women there!”). Will now enjoys watching as much rugby as he can, regularly tuning in to watch Welsh Premiership, Pro 14, Gallagher Premiership and of course the internationals.
Away from sport Will loves dance music and enjoys “a bit of a rave” every Friday listening to Pete Tong on Radio One with a few cups of coffee.
Will told me “I know I don’t always come along, but I’ll always be a Warrior, I love it.”
