⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️ ⚽️ SOUTH OF SCOTLAND LEAGUE RESULT ⚽️ ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
Newton Stewart F.C. 3 v 0 Heston Rovers F.C.
Yesterday we welcomed Heston Rovers to Blairmount in the South League and the home side made a great start almost taking the lead within three minutes when Matt Deazeley squared to top scorer Robert Middleton and the strikers initial effort was blocked but the rebound fell kindly for Deazeley and his strike hit the post and rebounded to Middelton who’s header was well held by the keeper. The home side we’re dominating the early exchanges and midway through the half Robbie Thomson curled a fine effort in that was blocked by the keeper and the ball was scrambed clear , then from the resulting corner Ross Landers whipped in a superb cross and this was met at the front post by defender Fraser Anderson who rifled the ball home fr hos third goal of the year to put the Creesiders deservedly in front. Minutes later Matt Deazeley lifted an exquisite ball over the Heston defence and Robert Middleton unselfishly squared the ball to strike partner Ross Landers who was unlucky to see his fine strike sail over the crossbar. The home side were in total control of proceedings at this stage and just after the half hour a brilliant through ball from Ross Landers found Matt Deazeley in space and he tried to place the ball into the bottom corner but his effort found the side netting. The home side were pushing for that crucial second goal and it almost came a minute from the break when Marc Whyte sent Robert Middleton clear but the big striker almost put too much on his effort as it sailed inches past the post but within seconds an inswinging corner from Ross Landers found Marc Whyte clear at the near post and the midfielder bulleted his header home to give Newton a two goal advantage that their overall play had fully deserved.
The Creesiders certainly hadn’t taken their foot off the gas as they went further ahead within a minute after the break when a long diagonal ball from Arran McKie found Marc Whyte beating the offside trap and the composed midfielder very calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper to put the home side into total control. Newton were still pushing and just after the hour Matt Deazeley reached a through ball first and he was hauled to the deck with the Referee immediately pointing to the spot. From the resulting kick Marc Whyte stepped up looking to complete his hatrick but he almost put too much on his attempt as it cannoned off the post to safety. Hestons day got a whole lot worse with 25 minutes to go when they were reduced to ten men after the big defender picked up his second yellow card for impeding a Newton player. Twenty minutes from time the home side almost went further in front when captain Callum MacDonald rifled in a superb 25 yard effort that just sailed over the bar. The Creesiders were still looking to add to the scoreline but Heston were defending well with the ten men and the last real chance fell to striker Ged McLean who unselfishly played the ball back into the path of the returning Graeme Blain who’s long range effort sailed inches over the bar.
We’d like to thank Heston for a terrific match and congratulate our team on another superb victory despite being short of several regulars and the win cements our place in the top 6. The lads now turn their attention to the derby next week with neighbours Wigtown. We’d also like to thank Mark McKie for his terrific photos from yesterday’s match.
