10. William Barham

William Frederick Barham worked for The Norwich Union Life Insurance Society at Head Office, Norwich. He was a member of the Foreign Valuation Department. He enlisted on 1st September 1939 in an anti tank unit having been a territorial in the Norfolk Yeomanry before the war. He was a member of the British Expeditionary Force at Dunkirk and died of wounds in hospital in Flanders on 11th June 1940, aged 20. His rank and unit are given as Gunner, Royal Artillery, 65 (The Norfolk Yeomanry) Anti-Tank Regiment. According to his obituary in the staff magazine.

"his fine Christian character and attractive personality had endeared him to all his colleagues and particularly to the members of the Rowing Club in which he was a prominent figure, having been stroke of the Maiden Four in 1939 which proved a most successful crew."
