Academy Football Philosophy
We recognise the ever changing demands of football.....
So it is paramount that from the First team and throughout the Academy, we recognise the need to be clear, consistent and committed in our approach to player development as such is the need to develop players to be both knowledgeable and flexible in their application.
In possession all of our teams are encouraged to play out from the back, make the pitch big in and control the tempo of the game, playing forward and making passes that take opponents out of the game to create goal scoring opportunities.
Out of possession we will become narrow and compact forcing play outwards, we encourage when appropriate to defend from the front.
Transition - Our players are coached and developed to express themselves at the right time and in the appropriate areas, clever movement and combinations, playing quickly in and around the box is key whilst focusing attacks centrally.
Through the clubs history wide player (wingers) have played pivotal and leading roles in the success here at Vale Park due to having a very large playing surface. Players with pace, acceleration, flair and individualism have helped bring a creative approach in wide positions, aiming to get the ball forward to the target areas.
We need to recognise and appreciate that only the First Team/Reserves during a season will need to apply a different style of football to win games, this will be dictated by the opposition, tactics, style of play and conditions.
Above all, our senior teams are expected to display a competitive and winning mentality and the academy teams will embrace the same culture but not at the expense of our beliefs focusing on player development.
