King and Quirk pull the REMY in front for victory

Phil Stafford's Litherland REMYCA added three more points to their tally in their promotion bid with a 2-1 triumph away to Atherton LR.

Colin Quirk's late finish from an Alex Ryan cross won the game for the REMY to keep them in first place.

Ryan kept the ball alive after a shot was well saved by the opposition keeper, and his cross found Quirk.

The goal came as a massive relief after the winger missed a penalty earlier on in the game, having his attempt saved by the LR keeper.

Atherton broke the deadlock with a breakaway and a deflected cross was poked home past Sean Lake.

King's equaliser came when a corner was flicked onto the back post and the defender slid at the back post to put the ball in the net.

An early chance for new signing Andy Fowler, along with one from Quirk, were well saved by the goalkeeper before the opener.

Luke Holden, another new addition to the squad, showed his quality with a few good crosses which eluded his team mates.

REMYCA were pressed by the home side who were fighting for a point but managed to hold on for all three points.

Next up, we travel to Southport in the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup Semi Final on Tuesday evening.

The game is £5 for adults, £3 concessions at the Merseyrail Community Stadium, better known as Haig Avenue.

The game will also be broadcast live on blivesports.com and on TuneIn radio by searching for B Live Sports.
