Message from Jesse:
Kia ora koutou (greetings to you all),
My name is Jesse James Tipene I am the new Rugby Development Officer for Stevenage Town Rugby Football Club. I am from Whangarei (two hours north of Auckland), New Zealand and I have recently completed a Bachelor of Physical Education Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Otago. For the past two year, I have been a teacher at Whangarei Boys’ High School teaching secondary Physical Education in New Zealand.
The saying “every kiwi is born with a rugby ball in their hand,” isn’t very far from the truth and I am no different. Rugby itself is a culture and has shaped the person I am today. I started playing rugby at the age of 5 and have not stopped since. I have played in school rugby, university rugby, club rugby and have even represented my provenance (Northland). As you may have realised, rugby has played a significant role in my life and is now my vehicle to travel the world teaching and playing what I love most. Rugby is not the only sport I enjoy playing. If it is not watching, teaching or playing rugby, basketball, touch, travelling, playing a bit of Overwatch and socialising with friends are a few things I like to do in my spare time.
I am now living in Hitchin, playing for Stevenage Town RFC and will be heavily involved in the Stevenage area. Ranging from primary to secondary schools as well as junior and senior club rugby. My objectives are to promote the sport of rugby here in the community and to raise participation levels across the board for the overall growth of the game. To improve key fundamental rugby skills for children/youth to understand and enjoy the sport. Lastly, to develop not only rugby players but good characteristics through the core values of rugby.
I look forward to meeting you all and sharing my ideas and experience over the course of this season.
Teenaa koutou katoa
