The Rifle green like all the Blues other pitches were used for a different sport in the past the Rifle green was another rugby pitch which has been converted into a football pitch to accommodate the growing number of football teams Blaenavon Blues run. The Rifle green is regarded as the best playing surface in the town, with a superb drainage system. The pitch was converted to a football pitch in the summer of 1993 for the newly formed Blaenavon Blues u16’s. Unfortunately efforts to get a changing rooms installed on the site have been met with numerous problems. A changing rooms were installed but were vandalised beyond repair, and resulted them being removed. To place a more permanent structure on the site are financially impossible due to the area being part of the World Heritage site, and it would have to meet some many criteria that the club could never commit to such a project.
The Rifles green is used as a pre-season training pitch for the Blues senior sides during the summer and also for pre-season games.
