From the Boardroom 3 of 12

3. Chairman’s Notes 13.04.19.

Hello and thank you for coming along to Longmead Stadium for this afternoon's penultimate Bostik League fixture. A warm welcome to today's match officials and also congratulations to the players, officials and supporters of Dorking Wanderers for winning the Premier League in such great style. Also welcome and thanks to our match sponsor Clive Gray and to our mascot Theo Gray and I do hope that they enjoy their day afternoon with us.

Clive runs the Tonbridge BBQ club and is a long time supporter or the club. His company will bring a BBQ to you so avoiding all the worries and allowing you to enjoy a stress free event.

I hope everyone has a great afternoon with us and I wish you all a very safe journey home.

As I have already mentioned our visitors today have won the league in their first season in the Bostik Premier which is a great achievement. The Angels are continuing our push towards the playoffs and will expect tough match as no doubt our opponents will remember the last minute goal scored by Sonny which inflicted one of their few defeats and will no doubt feel that there is a bit of unfinished business.

We lost to Leatherhead last Saturday in what was a disappointing game so there is some catching up to do to try to ensure second or third place in the league to book a home playoff spot.

The support for the team has proved invaluable so thank you and lets see if we can achieve that final push.

On Good Friday we go to Worthing, kick off 3pm, there will be a coach going and there will be a limited number of seats available. Cost for owners will be £20 and non owners £25. The leaving time from will be announced today and will also be on our web page. If you want to go please speak to Dave Brown.

Today we hope to welcome back Craig Stone after his loan spell and also Callum Adonis-Taylor. Both will strengthen the squad for the final few games. Tom Beere is aiming to be available for selection and I hope that Melvyn and Tina can work their magic to get him fit for the game.

As you may be aware there have been regretfully two events which have affected the reputation of the club and have put the Board in a no win situation.

The first was the withdrawing of the ladies team from their league just eight games from the end of their season. The matters leading up to this I will not go into but please be assured it was a decision no members of the Board wanted to take and it is one that leaves me very disappointed for all the parties involved as well as their supporters.

The second event was the withdrawing of the Angels' U18 from their league. This was carried out at the request of their manager whom reported that he was unable to field a team for the remaining league fixtures.

One person for whom these situations cause a lot of work for is our secretary Charlie Cole as it is not just a simple case of picking up the phone as many people imagine.

On a more positive note Slimming World collected, with the club's help, 172 bags of clothes for donation to a cancer charity.

We hosted a dance class for the first time in the marquee.

I have been informed that Clarion Housing are prepared to grant fund a 'man shed' at the ground and over the next few weeks meetings will be held to progress the project

The U14's held a friendly match at the ground against Brighton U14's and we had around 150 spectators attend. It was a great effort by Dom Welsh and thank you to Amy Weaver, Dave Brown, Gareth Johns and Pete Elves for turning out on a Friday evening to make it possible.

The academy side will be playing a games at Longmead on 17 April KO noon.

There will be a charity game at Longmead on 9 May when the U15's managed by Todd will be playing against Langton Green for the Henry Groonvelt Cup. For those of you who never met Henry he was the nicest person you could ever wish to meet. He was the club's coach driver and nothing was ever too much trouble for him he not only took the first team to matches but also our youth teams. All details will be on our website. There will be an admission fee with all money being donated to CRY to enable further heart screening to be carried out at the club.

Yet again I will make an appeal for volunteers to help at our various events. We need stewards as well as help with the catering.

On the catering side we were visited by T&MBC Environmental Health Inspector and I am pleased to say that we achieved a 5 Rating which is excellent. So many congratulations to Amy, Tamara and everyone involved in the running of our food outlets.

The club is looking for sponsorship for next season and we are more than happy to consider any reasonable offer and I have asked the club's commercial team to put forward packages that can be offered and these will be available soon.

Please take care and good luck to all our teams this weekend and please enjoy your afternoon with us

Dave
