6. 1st XI 2014/2015

Another Fantastic Season!

The previous season's Junior 2 title success and a superb multi-purpose pavillion saw Braishfield "double promoted" for the 2014/15 campaign.

Much had changed since Braishfield last played at this level in 2006. Sadly a decline in numbers and changes higher up the pyramid saw the Senior section reduced to 2 divisions with a number of long running clubs similar to Braishfield now longer in excistence. So with this in mind along with the step-up, consolidation was very much the main priority.

Any concerns were quickly forgotten as the team again turned in another superb effort and after a strong end to the season they clinched a second successive promotion as runners-up, although in fact were'nt far off again from clinching top spot. However, it was the cup competitions for which the season will be best remembered and at the end of the season the club were presented with 'giant killers' award by the Southampton League for their exploits!

In the Southampton Senior Cup, Braishfield knocked out three Premier Division sides enroute to the Quarter Finals for the first time since 1992 (when they reached the final). Sadly, here they were drawn away to Wessex League big-guns Team Solent and despite a brave effort were well beaten 0-4 by a full strength side who would eventually win the competition.

Braishfield also prospered in the Senior League Cup, where again they overcame three Premier Division sides to reach the final at Eastleigh FC where on a memorable May evening they took on Premier Division champions BTC Southampton. In front of a large crowd both sides produced a breathtaking game worthy of the occasion, which ended 2-2 after extra time but Braishfield held their nerve to win 4-3 on penalties and clinch the cup!

Watch out Premier Division - Braishfield are on their way!
